Boxplots show the observed OTU richness, effective richness, and Pielou’s evenness for the bacteria (A) and fungal (B) communities with the primary symbiont sequences removed across the symbiosis groups containing multiple species: species without AMF and without rhizobia (N), plant species with AMF but without rhizobia (A), plant species with AMF and rhizobia (AR). Points within the boxes give the individual values per plant species replicate. Letters indicate significant differences between the groups based on the ANOVA results shown in Additional file 1: Table S6.
